Key Performance Areas:
Conducting independent research on climate variability/change and agriculture
Preparing winning project proposals in collaboration with other scientists for submission to research funders
Conducting technology transfer activities related to climate variability/change in the agricultural sector
Contributing towards the development and updating of climate services for the agricultural sector
Publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals, newsletters, conference proceedings, and other media.
Requirements:
PhD in Agrometeorology /Meteorology/Agriculture
Proven research background in agriculture- and climate-related disciplines
Proven ability to conduct and supervise climate variability/change research
Proficiency in R, C/C++, or other scientific programming language
Good publication record in climate variability/change research
Track record of attracting externally-funded research projects
Ability to work with communities
Willingness to travel away from home for intermediate periods
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Valid driver’s license (code 08/EB).
A competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities and stature of the position. The appointment will be subject to a positive security clearance and preference will be given to South African citizens.
