Do not loose your Cellphone number and money.
Phone & Bank Account Hacking Scam Alert! Please be aware of the latest Cellphone and banking scam.
Someone will call you and say I sent my code to your phone by mistake, please give me that code urgently. Sometimes it won't be a call but a text (e.g sms whatsapp) NEVER, EVER, give that code to whoever. The caller will sound sweet, desperate and may call so many times to weary you, rather block that number or tell them you are reporting the number. The person will push / beg and put pressure on you to give the code, call you so many times to pressure you to give the code and be in a hurry. DON'T give them the pin.
Sometimes they will call and pretend to be from the bank, and usually in a hurry and say that they have realised that your account has been hacked and need to quickly change your pin, that you must give them your current pin so that they do not use the one you already used: NEVER EVER GIVE THAT PIN. It is best to tell them that you will call the bank back shortly and verify from the bank directly.
If you give them the code you give them access to control and take over your information or cell number.
It is worse if you save your banking details and pins on the contacts list as it means they will have access to that as well and may start emptying your account via ewallet (which is more difficult to trace).
After the person takes over your account, they will start sending messages to your contacts asking for money and they will ask that the money be sent via ewallet. It is important to warn your contacts not to give money based only on the strength of a text message without confirmation.
It is important that you take care not to save relatives' contacts by relationship e.g. husband, mom, it is best to write names to protect yourself and your relatives should you lose your phone or in cases where your phone is hacked or stolen.
If you know of any other scams, alert us so we can alert others.
Please post the scam alert in the comments under this post or send it via whatsapp: 072 783 0845 or email: ndivhuhot@gmail.com
